Weekend Warriors Wanted For Home Improvement Projects
Wendy Lee Filed under: General Decors
Do-it-yourself (DIY) home improvements have become almost a fad nowadays. It is quite usual to overhear people talk about home improvements they have done or are planning to do. This is for the simple reason that people can dress up their homes at relatively lower cost (given that they don’t mess up and end up paying more for professionals to clean up after the mess). Home improvements need not be complicated however. Here are a few great tips for do-it-yourself home improvements that you can finish over the weekend:
- Paint. This is not just limited to walls, but to furniture and cabinets as well. Cabinets cost so much less to paint than to replace. Do not limit yourself to the usual cabinet and furniture colors. Experiment with bolder and brighter colors or shades that reflect your personality. Just be sure to use the paint in a well-ventilated area.
- Remove and Change Wallpapers. The overall look of the house can change just by changing its wallpapers. Besides, wallpapers really have to be replaced after some time as they begin to peel. Wallpaper change is arguably the easiest home improvement one can do. It would also be a good idea to paint and change wallpapers at about the same time so that the color of the interior of the house will match.
- Replace Knobs and Handles. This will also go well with painting. Complete the transformation of newly-painted doors and cabinets with new pieces of knobs and handles. Even such small changes can doll up the entire house.
- Replace or Install Lighting Systems. A chandelier may be just the addition you need to smarten up your home. Chandeliers are available in home improvement stores and come with easy instructions on how to install. It would also be wise to install dusk to dawn lighting system outside of the house which instantly lights up if there is any movement at the house exterior.
Home improvement projects are practical ways of spending the weekend. A word of caution however; be sure you’re skilled enough and have the necessary tools to complete the job or you might end up calling the local electrician to finish the wiring you started and eventually messed up.
